What to do in a dental emergency:

Knocked-out tooth

  • Find the tooth, do not touch the root, hold it by the top of the tooth.
  • If the tooth is dirty, clean it with water. Do not scrub or use soap.
  • Keep the tooth moist by placing it inside your mouth either in the socket or store it in your cheek. You can also keep it in milk or a cup of your saliva.
  • See a dentist immediately. The longer the tooth is out of the mouth the more difficult it is to save. The likelihood that the tooth can be saved goes down dramatically after an hour.

Chipped or cracked tooth

  • Save any tooth fragments if there are any in a cup of your saliva or milk.
  • Rise your mouth out with warm water to clean the area.
  • Keep the swelling down by putting a cold pack on your face.
  • See a dentist immediately.

Bit tongue or lip

  • Rise your mouth out with warm water to clean the area.
  • Put a cold pack on your face to reduce the swelling.
  • See a dentist as soon as possible or go to the emergency room.

Toothache

  • Rise your mouth out with warm water to clean the area.
  • Gently use dental floss to remove any food caught between your teeth.
  • Take an over the counter pain killer to relieve the ache.
  • See a dentist as soon as possible.

  • See a dentist as soon as possible or go to the emergency room.
