Lihue Dental Remains Open for Emergency Procedures

Dentists across the United States are doing their part to stop the spread of the coronavirus disease COVID-19 by rescheduling non-urgent procedures such as cleanings and whitening appointments.

These changes are largely due to the recommendations of the American Dental Association (ADA) which on Monday, March 16, 2020 called upon dental care providers to postpone elective procedures for three weeks to help mitigate the spread of disease.

Dr. Terry Allen, DDS a local dentist who has been serving the Kauai Island community for more than 30 years says his team at Lihue Dental is following these guidelines.

“We have been caring for Kauai for a long time and we highly value the level of trust our patients place in us. Their safety and the health of our community is our top priority,” said Dr. Allen.

“Our staff has been working hard to postpone and reschedule elective and non-urgent appointments and follow CDC guidelines for social distancing. We will continue to treat patients who have emergencies, urgent needs, and mandatory appointments using CDC guidelines for safety,” he continued.

In the statement and recommendations released by the ADA, dentists nationwide are urged to continue to provide emergency dental care so that patients who might otherwise go to the emergency room can continue to receive care without overburdening already stressed healthcare facilities.

“We want all of our patients on Kauai to know that our reduced operating procedures and rescheduling of non-urgent appointments is not because we don’t want to provide care during this time,” said Dr. Ameer Eghbarieh. “In fact, we are making these changes because the health and safety of our community, staff, and everyone around us is most important,” he continued.

For anyone on Kauai needing emergency dental care, including concern of infection, acute pain, or trauma, Lihue Dental remains open Monday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Please call the clinic in advance at (808) 378-4754 and review check-in and operating procedures on the website.

As news and recommendations continue to change, Dr. Eghbarieh says his team will remain informed and continue to communicate as much as possible. The entire team at Lihue Dental thanks patients with non-urgent needs for their patience and flexibility during this uncertain time.
